When I first came in contact with this beautiful young lady it was last year around homecoming time. I had taken a off guard photo of her walking and it received a lot of attention on Facebook. From that day on, I knew I had to shoot a session with her. It took me by surprise when her Mom had submitted a form to do a birthday session for her. I was extremely excited because I've been waiting on this moment to shoot with Ms. Nekia. This session was more than a regular session, I saw this as being a great opportunity because she's so beautiful!
As soon as I arrived she was ready and prepared, more than I was. I had worked a 13 hour shift the night before and I was worn out. I had Markia assist me since my regular assistant ( my husband ) had to work. I shot this session in Manual mode. Periodically I would have to adjust my ISO and my shutter speed because it was getting ready to rain. The sun would come out and then it would leave.
Nekia was celebrating her 17th Birthday and I wanted it to be simple with style and taste added to it. We got her some number balloons, she had brought a sash and I provided her with a gold crown. While shooting I also had some smoke bombs with me for practice but they came out better than I thought. We ended up going through four smoke bombs because there were occasions where I didn't have my camera settings right and that caused the smoke to be over exposed. Around the third time we had finally got it right! Being that it was my first time it turned out better than I had thought it would.
As we moved from one area in the park to another, I took a few off guards of her just for fun. There were some of her staring because she was waiting on me to get my settings right and then some of her preparing her self for the next shot.
If you seen the sneaks on Kamia Portrait's Facebook, majority of the pictures were edited with my "Brown Sunrise" Preset. This was a personalized preset that I had created just for this session. Besides using the preset I also made a few adjustments here and there using the Level and Curve tool in Photoshop. I'd suggest this preset to be used on outdoor sessions. This preset brings a warmth vibe to the image. Click SHOP to purchase your preset.
I've out done myself again! I always aim to do better than my last session and I feel like I have. I couldn't have done it without this beautiful model, Nekia.
