Every day from that day forward I constantly watch her Instagram story and keep up with her news feed. I soon realized how positive she was and as I viewed her website I could tell how passionate she was through her “About Me”. I reached out to her to get to know more about her and her photography business and she was just as excited as I was, she agreed to do my series interview
Meet Hannah Sterling. She’s a beautiful, high spirited photographer who’s the owner of her photography business known as: Hannah Sterling Photography.
Her business is based out of Snellville, Georgia.
ABOUT HANNAH STERLING PHOTOGRAPHY
I can talk all day about how amazing her work is but I knew it could be better described by the artist herself. I sent Hannah a series of questions. The first question I always ask is to tell me more about your business and your work. Hannah said, “I am a portrait/lifestyle photographer. I shoot senior graduation pictures, EP covers, instagram fashion pictures, birthday photo shoots, etc. I don't have a preference of what to shoot, I just mainly shoot natural light photo shoots. I like the natural light look, better than the flash look. I do however shoot inside, I just try using my 50mm lens to capture as much light as I can.”
Besides photography Hannah is also a full time student. “Time management has finally become a skill of mine. I personally love modeling and fashion. I tend to pose during my shoots to give the models/my clients a good visual and it allows me to build a fun environment during my photo shoots,” she explained.
Not only is she a beast with the camera but she also has other hidden talents that I didn’t even imagine her having. “ I am a person that has many different talents. (Not to toot my own horn) lol. I love music. I can play the piano and sing. I know how to knit. I love video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. I'm a big thrifter and love revamping my thrift finds. (I actually revamped the dress in the picture of me). I like to read fiction and comic books. I'm also an athletic person, I like to run and lift weights (when I find time). To be honest, these little facts are only a snippet of who I am.” Even though she has many other things that makes her amazing I enjoyed the few things that she did share with me!
Her work makes her stand out from other photographers and her out look on her own legacy stands out also. I asked Hannah “What or Who is your biggest inspiration?” She told me that she didn’t have one and explained why.
“I am a person that believes in building my own legacy. I don't want someone to look at my photography and say "Oh you're photography reminds me of _______ photography." I want to establish my own identity. Therefore, I look at other 'random google photos', then I make a mood board, look at it for like 5 minutes and eventually create my own ideas during the photo shoot. I do really like @alyceebyrd and @usfjrain photos on Instagram (they are other really good photographers), but I don't try to copy their style.”
When she responded with that answer it took me by surprise. There are so many photographers who get so wrapped up in others work that they begin to copy instead of be original. Hannah on the other hand strives everyday to inspire her self so that she can build a name for her photography brand.
A side from knowing who you want to be, comes growth and accomplishments. Hannah described her biggest accomplishment to me, “My biggest accomplishment might be the fact that my business is only a year old, but I have grown so much in a year. An example of that is, once I changed my personal Instagram to my business Instagram (therefore signifying that I was wholeheartedly pursuing my passion), my Instagram grew dramatically and I have gained around 1000 followers in a year. Before I was getting around a shoot a month but now I've grown to giving around 1-2 shoots a week. “
Biggest mistake as a photography - The biggest mistake that I made as a photographer would be undercharging myself and doubting my talent. I was undercharging myself which caused stress for me and allowed people to use me. I also doubted myself and wouldn't advertise my work as much because I didn't think that it was 'good.'

Interviewing one of my favorite photographers brings so much joy to me! This interview inspired me to continue to push and work to build my own legacy. I can only imagine where her talents and work is about to take her! And with that I want to give a special thanks to Ms. Hannah Sterling, a young woman whom I’ve never met but felt so connected to while reading her answers. I wish you nothing but the best in your career and in your life.
